This one really hurts.

While Nebraska has had some great wins on the recruiting trail so far this summer, Matt Rhule has also missed out on some great recruits who chose to go elsewhere. The Cornhuskers just lost out on 4-star running back DeZephen Walker, who recently committed to Oklahoma just days before his official visit to Lincoln.

Walker clearly felt he saw all he needed to see after his visit to Norman, and even with another official visit on the books to Nebraska this weekend, he chose to commit to the Sooners and cancel his visit to Lincoln.

The young, talented running back did have official visits to Kansas State, Notre Dame, Purdue, and Kansas before visiting Oklahoma, but clearly the Sooners impressed him enough to commit right after the visit. Losing Walker certainly hurts Nebraska as Walker is the No. 370 player nationally, No. 25 running back in the Class of 2027, and the No. 5 player in the state of Missouri.

Nebraska loses 4-star running back DeZephen Walker to Oklahoma

Nebraska lost Walker to Oklahoma after the Sooners didn't even give him an offer till May 9, and his only visit to Norman was this past weekend. Walker rushed for 957 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 106.3 yards per game and 5.4 yards per carry in his junior season.

Nebraska only has six players committed in their 2026 recruiting class, and landing a player like Walker would have been big, but now the Cornhuskers won't get a chance to wow the young running back. Rhule is trying to build a solid offense going forward, and Walker would have been able to fit in that, but with his fast commitment to Oklahoma, Rhule will have to turn to the next man up when it comes to recruits.

There are still players on the board for Nebraska, like tight end Luke Sorensen, who may have even leaked his commitment just days before his announcement.
