The Nebraska football team has found itself having to work in order to keep the commits it has until they cross the early signing day finish line.

It looks like it’s going to be a very interesting month of December for the Nebraska football team. Not only is Matt Rhule and company on the lookout for pieces in the transfer portal that could improve the team, but they’re looking to wrap up the 2024 recruiting class.

It doesn’t appear that wrapping that up is going to be all that easy. In fact, the Huskers just suffered a decommitment earlier this week when defensive lineman Carlon Jones opened his recruiting again.

Of course, on the same day he made that announcement, the Cornhuskers added another big commitment in the form of offensive lineman Grant Brix. Now the trick is going to be holding onto the other guys they’ve already added to the class.

Just how tricky that all is was demonstrated this week as well when one of the Huskers prized wide receiver commits, Isaiah McMorris got a brand new offer. Mississippi State, under newly hired head coach Jeff Lebby is hunting for wide receiver help. He decided to come into Omaha to try and get it.

The offer is interesting for a couple of different reasons. The first is that McMorris has been a strong Nebraska football commit for several months. There really hasn’t been any rumblings that he might be wavering. Especially not this close to signing day.

Nebraska football needing to worry about Mississippi State?

The other reason this offer is so interesting is that not only is McMorris part of a successful 2024 recruiting class for the Huskers, but so are two of his teammates.

Wide receiver Dae’vonn Hall and quarterback Daniel Kaelin are joining McMorris in Lincoln next fall. Would he really be looking to go somewhere else at this point?

It’s safe to say the Nebraska football coaching staff will be keeping a close eye on this situation.
