Nebraska Cornhuskers athletic director Trev Alberts had a very good Tuesday as he got a massive raise and a much longer contract.

There might be a bit of stress surrounding the Nebraska Football program but the man who put Matt Rhule in charge of that team has to be breathing a bit easier today. That’s because Trev Alberts just became a very rich man. He’s also got some serious job security.

Alberts got a parting give from the outgoing president, Ted Carter in the form of a contract that will have him pledged to the Nebraska Cornhuskers through 2031. He’s also seeing his base pay jump from $1.7 million per year to $2.1 million.

“Today’s college landscape is complex and ever-changing,” Carter said in a statement released through his office. “We need exactly the right person leading Husker athletics forward. In Trev Alberts, we have found that leader.”

Alberts is now one of the highest paid ADs in college sports. And he’s getting this pay bump just weeks after a report was released from UNO that showed there was some apparently some book-cooking during his tenure in Omaha.

If nothing else, this new contract shows that the Nebraska Cornhuskers don’t feel as though Alberts came close to doing anything wrong at his previous stop. And that they feel he’s the best man to lead the program for the foreseeable future.

Jaz Shelley goes down for Nebraska Cornhuskers

While Amy Williams and the Nebraska Women’s Basketball team cruised to a 79-32 win over Alcorn State on Tuesday night, not everything is peaches and cream. The 3-0 Huskers could be without one of their better players for a while.

Midway through the contest, Jaz Shelley left the game with a sprained ankle. She later returned to the sidelines to cheer on her teammates, but she was wearing a boot on her foot.

That’s not a particularly good sign. Now we all sit and wait and see how long a Nebraska Cornhuskers team that was ravaged by injuries last year will have to be without one of its senior leaders.

  • It’s not a huge surprise, but Nebraska has opened the week as a touchdown underdog to Wisconsin. The Huskers haven’t won in Madison since joining the Big Ten. This week they’ll be trying to win despite giant question marks at the quarterback position.
  • If the Huskers have a chance to win on Saturday night, it’s because of Tony White. The defensive coordinator has impressed everyone this season. That’s why he’s one of the candidates for the Frank Broyles Award. The award is given to the top assistant coach in the country.
