Nebraska Football: Matt Rhule inexplicably listed on hotseat

According to Vegas oddsmakers, Nebraska Football head coach Matt Rhule is on the hot seat, but that seems more than a little crazy.

The coaching carousel has officially started for the 2023-24 college football season. Boise State, Mississippi State and Texas A&M have all fired their head coaches. San Diego State’s Brady Hoke retired.

Penn State joined the parade by firing their offensive coordinator. More are undoubtedly on the way.

One name that common sense says is not in danger is Nebraska Football head coach Matt Rhule. And yet, Vegas Oddsmakers believe that there is at least a chance he could be fired after just one season in Lincoln.

It’s worth pointing out that the odds are not particularly good. On the other hand, giving it 10-to-1 odds that Rhule will be fired this offseason seems entirely to low. 100-to-1 would seem to low. So would 1000-to-1 if we’re being honest.

Even if Matt Rhule loses the final two games of the Nebraska Football season and finishes 5-7, it’s clear that progress was made in changing the culture in Memorial Stadium. Rhule has won people over. There are enough people who like what he’s done in Year 1 that he has the support of both the public and the athletic department.

Nebraska Football coach weirdly on the hotseat?

It’s true that Husker fans have not shown a ton of patience this season. Calls for Marcus Satterfield to step down or be fired have been loud and consistent. But the same calls for his job have not fallen on Rhule.

That’s despite the fact that the Huskers’ head coach has made it clear the game losing call against Maryland was his decision. He’s taken the blame. He’s not taking the ire.

Sometimes it feels like Vegas knows things that other people don’t know. This feels like the Nebraska Football head coach has landed on the list incorrectly. It’s hard to believe he’s actually on the hotseat.
