Nebraska Football: Former Husker starting to surge with new team
Former Nebraska Football running back Ajay Allen got off to a slow start with the Hurricanes, but he’s starting to show some flashes.
One of the bigger losses to the transfer portal for the Nebraska Football team this spring came from a running back room that could certainly use someone with the talent level of Ajay Allen. The young running back had said over the winter that he planned to return to Lincoln, however, several months later he made his departure.
Eventually Allen landed with the Miami Hurricanes, perhaps showcasing just how big his talent was, considering that most Nebraska Football transfer tend to head to smaller schools. Since heading to the ACC school, the running back’s playing time has been spotty, though it does appear he’s starting to gain the confidence of his coaches.
Over the last two games, Allen has shown the explosiveness he demonstrated in his brief stay with the Huskers.
Against the Clemson Tigers, Allen carried the ball 16 times for 54 yards and a touchdown. It was the most carries in a game he’d seen all season for Miami and at the time was the most yards he’d amassed vs an FBS opponent in 2023 (he had 68 yards and 2 TDs on 12 carries against Bethune Cookman).
He followed that performance, which allowed Miami to beat the Tigers in Double OT, with an even better one against Virginia this past weekend.
Ex-Nebraska Football star starting to hit his stride
In the overtime win over the Cavaliers, the former Nebraska Football running back rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on just 11 carries. That included one carry that was quite impressive as far as hurdling defenders.
On the season, the ex-Nebraska Football player is third on the Hurricanes in rushing with 282 yards and is tied for the team lead with four touchdowns.
Things obviously didn’t work out for Ajay Allen and the Nebraska Football team for a variety of reasons. But considering the injuries that the team has suffered at his position, it’s hard not to dream on what might have been.
