The Nebraska Cornhuskers football team handed out some new Blackshirts this week in order to account to some stepping up and some getting hurt.

The timing of when to hand out the new Blackshirts is likely not a coincidence. They arguably played their best game of the year against an Illini offense that seemed confused and stymied all game last Friday.

The trio of new Blackshirts aren’t really a surprise either. Defensive coordinator Tony White announced that safety Phalen Sanford, linebacker Nick Henrich and defensive end Jimari Butler were the proud recipients. White said that the handing out of the black practice jerseys was in line with what the tradition has been, as all three are usually starters or spend plenty of time on the field.
