Former Nebraska Cornhuskers star Devine Ozigbo is looking for another job, while Harper Murray keeps shining for volleyball in today’s news.

Unfortunately for Ozigbo, Sunday night meant that he’s going to need to try and hook up with another team if he wants to play in the NFL this fall. At times, he looked like he might be able to stick with the Detroit Lions.

However, he finished up the preseason with 15 carries for 34 yards. That wasn’t impressive enough to convince Detroit he belonged on the roster.

There is a bit of decent news for those who are watching former Nebraska Cornhuskers try to make an NFL roster. At least for now, Adrian Martinez is still on the roster. The big cut day is Tuesday and it will certainly be interesting to see what happens then.

Other Nebraska Cornhuskers news

The Nebraska volleyball team finished the weekend 3-0 thanks to a three-set sweep over SMU on Sunday. The Huskers managed to get through the weekend without losing a single set, though there were a couple of times when it came close. Carried by Harper Murray’s 14-kill, 10-dig double-double, the Nebraska Cornhuskers managed to avoid a second-set loss and won it 25-23. That was enough to give the team a boost and they romped in the third set.

The Nebraska soccer team is also still undefeated. They notched a 3-1 win over Gonzaga on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Huskers are now 3-0-1 and have had a very good offensive approach so far.

This year, they have 13 goals scored. It took them 11 contests for them to reach that mark in 2022.

On Sunday night, the Nebraska football team handed out the final three single-digit numbers. Quinton Newsome got to get his #6 back. DeShon Singleton, who has impressed coaches greatly this offseason got #8 and defensive lineman Ty Robinson got #9.

The last three single-digit jerseys being handed out also announced that the Blackshirts have also been handed out. All three players were shown sporting the jerseys. Now it’s a question of just how else is going to get the Blackshirts. It would seem likely that Nebraska Cornhuskers coach Matt Rhule will announce how that was handled on Monday.

The players that are sporting the single-digits are these:

No. 0 — Nash Hutmacher, DL
No. 1 — Billy Kemp IV, WR
No. 2 — Isaac Gifford, DB
No. 3 — Nick Henrich, LB
No. 4 — Luke Reimer, LB
No. 5 — John Bullock, LB
No. 6 — Quinton Newsome, DB
No. 7 — Jeff Sims, QB
No. 8 — DeShon Singleton, DB
No. 9 — Ty Robinson, DL

Offensive lineman Ethan Piper is an honorary single-digit jersey wearer since O-lineman can’t do that. The Nebraska Cornhuskers have now completed the list of players to get that honor this year. Rhule has said before players cannot lose those jerseys once they gain them this year.
