Today’s Big Ten football wrapup lets everyone know who will be starting under center for the Illinois Fighting Illini and more.

Just days away from the Big Ten football season starting, teams all over the country are naming their starting quarterbacks. You can include the Illinois Fighting Illini in that group. Earlier this week, Bret Bielema announced who will be under center on opening day.

Bielema told the collected Big Ten football media on Monday that transfer signal-caller Luke Altmyer will be the Illini starter.

Altmyer comes over from Ole Miss where he played sporadically for the Rebels in 2021 and 2022. Over the course of his SEC career, Altmyer completed 28-of-54 pass attempts, and threw three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Now he’ll get a chance to show Big Ten football followers what he can do when he’s handed the keys to the kingdom.

Ohio State taking its time

While other Big Ten football teams are naming their starters, Ryan Day is playing it close to the vest. While he did name several other starters at several other positions, Day said he’s not ready to name QB1.

According to Eleven Warriors’ Dan Hope, neither Kyle McCord nor Devin Brown has won or lost the job yet. Day went on to say that when it comes to who the staff feels is the leader right now, it’s “split right down the middle.”

Iowa represents Big Ten football on the All-American team

Defensive star Cooper DeJean and punter Tory Taylor just keep getting preseason love. This time around, both players were named to the AP preseason All-American team.

That should come as no surprise at all, considering that they’ve made a ton of publications listing for the best players in the sport. Iowa’s offense might still be facing some serious question marks, but their defense and special teams is expected to once again be one of the best in Big Ten football circles.
