While he’s now governor, Jim Pillen was once one of the best defenders on his Nebraska Cornhuskers team but he had to fight to get his Blackshirt back.
He’s still in his first year as Governor Pillen but he’s already talking about the things he feels like he learned when he was a member of the Nebraska football team.
Among the topics he touched on, was that when he played for Coach Osborne, no one ever said no.
They just went out and played hard and expected to win. He hopes that the atmosphere will return under Coach Rhule.
At the end of the interview, Governor Pillen talked about earning his Blackshirt. He admitted that it took three years in order to get it. Then he said that his job was to help the guys that were behind him on the depth chart trying to take it away from them. Pillen felt that was what was really special about the culture under Osborne.
He also believes that’s what made the Huskers so good.
Pair of former Nebraska Cornhuskers shine for Chiefs
Earlier in the weekend, a ton of former Huskers had very good preseason debuts. On Sunday evening, two more ex-Cornhuskers shone for the defending Super Bowl champs. Both Dicaprio Bootle and Lamar Jackson finished the game with four total tackles. This put the pair in a tie for the third-most tackles on the team.
Bootle is entering his third season with the Chiefs, while Lamar Jackson has been a journeyman in the NFL. He’s now trying to make the Chiefs roster after previously playing for the New York Jets, Chicago Bears, and Denver Broncos.
Nebraska Cornhuskers earn summer degrees
A total of 11 current and former Husker student-athletes across a bunch of sports received their degrees during Summer Commencement ceremonies on Saturday. Athletes like Sarah Hargrove and Kylie Piringer from gymnastics, Current minor league pitcher Cam Wynne, and Maddie Krull are just some of the people who got their diplomas this weekend.
Nebraska football alternate uniforms sneak peak
As we prepare for the eventual start of the regular season, it’s a given that the Nebraska Cornhuskers are going to be wearing alternate uniforms at least once this season. While those alternate uniforms aren’t announced yet, it’s possible we got a sneak peek.
A keen-eyed Husker fan noticed some new jerseys for sale that appear to be alternate uniforms. It’s hard to have an idea on what exactly it will look like, but blue outline on the numbers is certainly something that has caught attention.
