Nebraska Football: Trey Palmer gets love from Randy Moss
One-time Nebraska football star Trey Palmer got a rave review from one of the best receivers in the NFL. Quite the jump-off for his pro career.
Palmer’s stint with the Nebraska football team might have been short, but he certainly left his mark in the school record books. Now, the former LSU and Nebraska Cornhuskers receiver is hoping to make his mark in the NFL. And one Hall of Fame pass-catcher is convinced Palmer could indeed make a mark.
According to the Twitter account, Fire The Cannons, Moss had a glowing review of Trey Palmer. Moss said that he believes the former Nebraska football star is the “best young receiver” to enter the NFL in the past 15 years.
Moss reportedly added that there should be a number of GMs upset that Palmer lasted until the sixth round and they all passed on him.
It’s worth pointing out that Moss isn’t shouting into a vacuum. The Tampa Bay Buccanneers’ first depth chart of fall camp lists Palmer on the two-deep and he’s far from all the way down on that depth chart.
The ex-Nebraska football player is backing up Mike Evans. Certainly it doesn’t seem likely he’s going to beat Evans out for playing time, but it doesn’t show that the Bucs appear to think highly of the rookie receiver.
The question now is just how fast Palmer can move and how far he can go. It’s clear that there have been more than a few moments when he’s impressed his new team as they gear up for the regular season.
Ex-Nebraska football star deserves praise
Obviously, Palmer is going to need to show out in order to make Randy Moss right. He was, after all a sixth round pick after originally being projected as a possible third rounder. It’s right to wonder why he fell as hard as he did.
On the other hand, the receiver showed some serious flashes with Nebraska football in 2022. After never having more than 30 catches in a season before coming to Lincoln, he logged 71, 1,043 yards, and nine touchdowns last season.
It’s also worth pointing out that if Palmer can indeed become a high-impact rookie, that doesn’t hurt Nebraska football recruiting in the future.
