The Nebraska Cornhuskers are hoping that an Omaha prospect will choose to stay home but away from Creighton, and he’s clearly impressed by Fred Hoiberg.

As the Nebraska basketball team heads closer and closer to the regular season, Hoiberg and his staff are still working plenty hard on the recruiting front. One target in particular has surfaced as the likely top prospect of the 2025 class in part because he’s already quite close to campus.

There’s also the fact that A’mare Bynum is one of the best players in his class. He’s also the consensus top player in the state of Nebraska for the 2025 group.

It stands to reason that the final push for Bynum, whenever that may be, is going to involve both the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Creighton Bluejays. Though there isn’t a guarantee that the Omaha Bryan star is going to stick around Nebraska if a team outside its borders really catches his eye.

Bynum currently has eight total offers, including the two top in-state schools. Iowa, Iowa State, Tennessee, Wake Forest, California, and Texas Tech have all come calling for the 6-foot-8 power forward.

The prospect recently talked about the schools that have had the most contact with him, and it appears that the Nebraska Cornhuskers continue to make an excellent impression. He told On3 that Hoiberg and his staff’s knowledge of the NBA is at the front of Bynum’s mind.

Nebraska Cornhuskers provide a path to the pros

"“The program is getting better every year; he’s building it. They like how versatile I am, that I can rebound it and bring it up to start the offense. Most of the coaches come from an NBA background. And Coach Fred (Hoiberg) played in the league.”"

It’s a definite positive that A’mare Bynum sees Hoiberg as building the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball program. The progress has been incremental so far, with Hoiberg getting his first .500 record in Lincoln this past season.

The Nebrasketball coach has built on whatever momentum he got from the return of Keisei Tominaga by going hard after the transfer portal. His pursuit of Bynum shows he’s not ignoring high school talent entirely. Especially when they are among the best talent in the country, right in his backyard.

As is always the case, the big question is going to be whether the Nebraska Cornhuskers can close the deal with a prospect who is being courted by programs that have had quite a bit more success.
