Nebraska football fans preparing for Carter Nelson cherry on the recruiting sundae

Nebraska football fans have been having a very good time over the last week and Wednesday could be one of the best days of the bunch.

The Nebraska football team has been on a roll recruiting-wise for quite a while. It’s been incredibly entertaining to watch one recruit after another to commit to the Huskers. After Tuesday, Matt Rhule and company totaled 20 commits in the 2024 class. Will it be 21 by Wednesday afternoon?

The tea leaves swirling around the cup indicate that Carter Nelson is back to being a Nebraska football commit. There was a time when those tea leaves were very clearly spelling out that he was headed elsewhere.

Both Georgia and Notre Dame seemed to be taking a lead in the Carter Nelson race. Then the Huskers had one more shot. They had one more visit weekend to try and show the Ainsworth phenom what the Nebraska football program had to offer.

Nelson is going to be announcing his school choice at noon on Wednesday. And in what has been a whirlwind recruiting effort for the Nebraska football coaching staff, it appears the tight end will be the cherry on the sundae.

Nebraska football getting another?

It is worth pointing out that there was a time when another big-time prospect was considered a near shoo-in for the Huskers. Even the experts thought that Dylan Raiola was going to commit “any day now.”

March was supposed to close with a 5-star quarterback being in the fold. And then Georgia swept in. Could the Carter Nelson situation be a repeat of that heartbreak?

It sure doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen for a second time this season. That’s not just because Nelson is from Nebraska and Raiola wasn’t.

It seems likely that Carter Nelson is going to be the cherry on the Nebraska football recruiting sundae and one heck of a get as we head into dead period.
