Nebraska football has some new competition for one of their quarterback targets and it appears they are fading in the race to land him.
As we head towards the recruiting dead period, there have been some big shifts in the landscape. One of those shifts includes a quarterback prospect that is high on Nebraska football’s list of targets. However, it appears that Alex Manske’s interest in the Huskers is fading a bit.
For a time, it looked as though the duel to land the 2025 quarterback prospect was coming down to Nebraska football and the Iowa Hawkeyes. However over the weekend, Kansas State entered the fray.
Now it appears that the Big 12 squad made up a ton of ground in a short period of time and the Cornhuskers are quickly sliding to the “outside looking in” position. After the Wildcats made their official offer, they jumped into second place in what is a two-team race according to On3.
The Hawkeyes are currently favored to score the native son who hails from Algona, Iowa. Though the lead is slim with a 38 percent chance compared to a 33.3 percent chance for Kansas State. The Huskers are now in a distant third with just a 19.4 percent chance of landing Alex Manske.
Nebraska football falling off
I’d never be one to try and claim that the Huskers losing ground on a quarterback they spent quite a bit of time recruiting recently is a good thing. But reading the tea leaves, it would seem there’s a reason Manske might be so quickly souring on Matt Rhule and his staff.
The Huskers have long been in on Pennsylvania quarterback prospect Stone Saunders. I’ve long wondered how the pursuit of both Manske and Saunders would shake out. Then Saunders teased some big news coming on Tuesday.
If the Nebraska football team is about to be at the top of Stone Saunders list, or even the last team standing, it would make sense why Alex Manske has soured.
