It was a busy day of news for both the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball and football teams as both squads start to gear up for next season.
It’s been a fairly positive postseason for the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team as Fred Hoiberg has looked like he’s reloaded after the losses of Sam Griesel and Derrick Walker. However, it’s safe to assume that if the Huskers didn’t get shooting guard Keisei Tominaga back for the 2023-2024 season, things would be a bit worrisome as it leads to an improvement over last year.
Luckily for the Huskers and Fred Hoiberg, Keisei is indeed coming back. He announced that news on Wednesday night with just two words. “I’m back.”
Over the last few days, his return to Nebraska basketball seemed like it was likely. That was despite the fact that he had a very good workout with the Indiana Pacers.
It appears that even though he “rang the bell” in the predraft workout, Keisei was told that he needs a little more work in college before he’s gonna have a shot at the pros. There was mention earlier this spring that Hoiberg was putting him through some strenuous workouts. Perhaps another year of that will do the 3-point deadeye good.
Other Nebraska Cornhuskers news
- Nebraska football fans found out the start time for several games later this fall. The season will start on Thursday, August 31 at 7 pm at Minnesota. The Colorado game the week after has an 11 am start time. They will return home on September 16 to take on Northern Illinois at 6 pm.
- The Nebraska football team also found out it will be playing at Illinois on October 6 at 6 pm. The other game the Huskers’ know the kick time for is the Black Friday game against Iowa which starts at 11 am.
- Volleyball Day was incredibly popular. So popular in fact, that tickets sold out in a matter of hours. Now, the university is putting even more tickets on sale. Those tickets go on sale this morning at 10 am. It’s a safe bet they’ll sell out quickly as well.
- One way in which Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule wants to help improve his team is by working on them between the ears. That’s why he’s put an emphasis on players meeting with sports psychologist Dr. Brett Haskell.
- One day after the Huskers saw four pitchers decide to move on from the Nebraska baseball team, they saw backup infielder Blake Mozley enter the transfer portal. Mozley wasn’t much of a contributor after coming to Nebraska from Junior College. He had just 20 at-bats this season and hit just .200 on the year. He’s got one more season to play.
- The changes to the Nebraska Cornhuskers athletic department that a couple of the regents have proposed were supposed to get a vote at a special meeting on Wednesday. It did not. I’ve written that the rule change is a potential power grab, and pushing the vote back to June 22 might be a realization that the move isn’t going to be that popular.
