The Nebraska football team’s recruitment efforts are heating up as they aim to secure the commitment of the highly sought-after Gabriel Williams.

With spring practice over and the season still months away, Matt Rhule and company have a singular focus, preparing for the next Nebraska football team. Recruiting is front and center of their focus, and over the weekend, that focus included an official offer to a 4-star linebacker out of Maryland by the name of Gabriel Williams.

Not long after the Huskers made their scholarship offer, Matt Rhule and his staff convinced the linebacker to come to Lincoln and see what the Nebraska football program really had to offer. That he’s willing to take an official visit is already a coup considering how busy Williams is going to be in June.

Williams is among the top 20 linebackers in the 2024 class and the number four player in the state of Maryland. Because of that, he’s got some of the best and well known programs in the country come calling.

The Huskers are going to be vying with several other Big Ten schools for the chance to haul in Gabriel Williams with the Maryland Terapins being the team to beat, according to most recruiting services.

Rhule and his staff are hoping that bringing the 6-foot-4, 195 prospect into Lincoln on June 23, which was already the biggest recruiting weekend of the summer, will be able to sway the 4-star player. Of course, as previously mentioned the June is going to be a busy time. That includes an official visit this weekend to another one of the front runners in Pittsburgh.

With more than 24 official offers on his ledger, it’s not going to be a particularly easy battle to convince Williams he should be a member of the Nebraska football program. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen.
