Nebraska football recruiting scored a bit of a get this weekend, even if it’s not a commit just yet. The Huskers have drawn a bead on 4-star defensive back Mario Buford and it feels like the inside track. They might also have a secret weapon, considering that his brother, Marques Buford is a current member of head coach Matt Rhule‘s squad.

Earlier this month the 5-foot-11, 170-pound versatile defensive back, took his last unofficial visit. He’s not starting to sort out the schedule for the official visits. Those visits will help him pare down the schools that he’s looking at. Nebraska football recruiting has managed to secure one of those official visits … officially.

Cornhuskers Wire reported on Saturday that Buford has pinpointed the weekend that he’ll be in Lincoln and it turns out it’s a weekend that is going to be pretty massive for Nebraska football recruiting. The Texas high school defensive back will be in town from June 2 to June 4.

Those dates just happen to coincide with a number of other highly valued 2024 recruits especially. There was even a time when that weekend was supposed to be when 5-star quarterback Dylan Raiola was rumored to be coming. Of course, he’s since committed to Georgia and the Huskers have moved on to Daniel Kaelin.

Along with the Huskers, Arkansas, Michigan State,, Oregon, Penn State and Washington are considered the top contenders for Buford’s services. However, when looking at what recruiting experts believe, it appears NU is the team to beat.

On3 currently rates Nebraska football recruiting to have a 71 percent chance of landing the 4-star defensive back. 247Sports is even more certain and considers the second Buford brother to be a lock to end up in Lincoln.

With all that being said, it feels like that June visit could be the clincher. Nebraska football recruiting could get on quite the roll if that’s the case.
