The day has been coming for a while, but it’s actually here now for Nebraska football as they’ll have to look somewhere beyond Dylan Raiola.

The storm clouds started rolling in on Sunday night. Dan Orlovsky, of all people, tipped that Dylan Raiola committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. And now Nebraska football is forced to look for a Plan B.

The question of course, is whether or not there really is a Plan B for the Huskers in the 2024 class. There are a few players the staff has had contact with here and there. But as of now, the only quarterbacks that Matt Rhule and staff have offered both committed elsewhere.

Bellevue West prospect Daniel Kaelin pulled the trigger for the Missouri Tigers earlier this spring. It was clear to Kaelin that Raiola was the guy Nebraska football really wanted. And now it appears it’s time to return to the drawing board.

At the moment, it appears that Plan B is getting two or even three QBs in 2025. It’s obvious that its unlikely the Huskers are going to be happy with just one, even if that one ends up being Stone Saunders.

The Huskers currently have offers out to six different quarterbacks in the 2025 class. They also have three out for the class of 2026.

Interestingly enough, one of those 2026 offers is none other than Dylan Raiola’s younger brother, Dayton.

So at the moment, there isn’t a defined Plan B. Other than to stand pat with what they have. The good news there is that Jeff Sims has two years left to play.

That means the Cornhuskers don’t have to go out and get his replacement this year.

On the other hand, this is a high profile recruiting loss, even if people knew it was coming. It will be interesting to see how Matt Rhule and company pivot.
