Former Nebraska Cornhuskers walk-on quarterback Jarrett Synek has found himself a new home. That and more in today’s news.

A number of Huskers have decided to enter the transfer portal since the end of the spring game. It turns out that quite of a few of the guys that entered the portal were quarterbacks.

Logan Smothers and Casey Thompson were the big names to depart. But the Nebraska football team also lost walk-ons like Jarrett Synek in what has just fallen short of a purge.

Now, the former Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback has found his new home. He announced on Twitter that he’ll play football for South Dakota in 2023.

Synek will join an  FCS school that struggled mightily in 2022. The Coyotes won just three games and will be looking for some new blood to try and lead them to more wins.

He clearly didn’t get much playing time with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but there is a chance that Synek could be something with the lower-level school. This could be an interesting story to watch when the fall rolls around.

Nebraska basketball sees another departure

The roster turnover for Nebraska basketball continued this week as forward Wilhelm Breidenbach entered the transfer portal. The move is hardly surprising considering the number of big men the Huskers have brought into the fold this offseason.

Breidenbach was one of those who was supposed to offer a presence in the post but someone who could also bang home shots from downtown. Those skills never really materialized and in turn, Breidenbach never got much in the way of playing time.

Now he’ll hope he can find success elsewhere.

Other Nebraska Cornhuskers news

  • Nebraska baseball got an important win on Saturday. One day after blowing a lead to Maryland, the Huskers scored enough to hold off the 23rd-ranked Terapins, 12-10. The win keeps the Huskers in the running for the Big Ten title.
  • Former Husker Freedom Akinmoladun is getting another try at the NFL. He’d spent this past spring playing for the XFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks but just got an invite to Miami Dolphins minicamp.
