Former Nebraska football quarterback Casey Thompson might be zeroing in on the next place where he’s going to play with an old coach.
Nebraska football fans are likely still reeling from losing their starting quarterback in 2022. While he was only here for one year, he made his impact with his high level of play and toughness.
However, not long after the Huskers’ spring game, Thompson announced he was hitting the road and finding a new school for 2023. It looks like he’s found that new home, and the destination is not all that surprising, considering FAU’s ties with one of his old coaches.
The Omaha World-Herald reports that Thompson is nearing an announcement that would have him joining Florida Atlantic. He’ll be reuniting with former Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman.
That reunion makes quite a bit of sense for a couple of different reasons. The first is that Herman was the guy who recruited Thompson to Austin in the first place.
It would seem the coach getting hired at FAU and trying to rebuild that program being the place where the former Nebraska football star ends up makes more sense when looking at him leaving Lincoln.
Former Nebraska football star headed to FAU?
It wasn’t all that long ago that people thought Casey Thompson was leaving the Huskers because he didn’t want the competition of facing off against Jeff Sims. Herman heading the Owls could be the real reason he’s looking towards greener pastures.
After all, while Matt Rhule has said and done all the right things so far, Thompson doesn’t have a relationship with him. It’s possible he just. wants his last year in college football to be somewhere he feels like he knows what’s going to happen.

Thompson had looked at the possibility of heading to Auburn but that is done and over. It now appears any chance of him returning to Nebraska football is just about over as well.
