In our latest Nebraska Cornhuskers news roundup, a pair of Huskers helped their XFL teams, a top RB recruit is repping NU, and more.

While former Nebraska football stars like Trey Palmer, Travis Vokolek and Garrett Nelson edge ever closer to finding out if they’re going to get drafted a couple of former Nebraska Cornhuskers are busy forging their new professional football careers in the XFL.

Both defensive lineman Freedom Akinmoladun and cornerback Chris Jones helped their new teams to victories over the weekend and as it turns out both teams are among the best in the upstart league.

Akinmoladun tallied four tackles, one TFL, and one sack in the St. Louis’ Battlehawks 24-15 victory at Houston to improve to 5-2. Meanwhile, Jones had three tackles for the Seattle Seadragons and helped his team also improve to 5-2 with a 24-15 win over Arlington.

Nebraska Cornhuskers running back prospect repping NU

4-star running back Nathaniel Frazier is keeping his options open when it comes to selecting his college team but it sure feels like the Huskers have made some real inroads. The Mater Dei running back recently attended a football camp and it’s reported that he was decked out in Nebraska Cornhuskers gear the whole time.

That’s certainly a very big deal for Matt Rhule and company who would love to land the eighth-ranked running back in the 2024 class. At the moment, he’s still someone the recruiting experts believe is headed to USC but it’s clear the Huskers managed to make a big impression.

Punter talks about big tribute

Nebraska Cornhuskers punter Brian Buschini changed his number this winter and considering that quite a few other Huskers also changed their number for various reasons. However, the punter, who is the big odds on favorite to be the starting punter this season changed his number to 18 for a very special reason.

Buschini wanted to pay tribute to former Huskers’ quarterback Brook Berringer. He talked about his decision to make that move after practice on Tuesday.
