Nebraska football recruiting has turned its attention to a 2026 athlete from the Pennsylvania area that could end up getting more attention soon.

Should Nebraska football recruiting scoop up Scoop Smith, it seems likely that they’ll be beating off some big-time competition, even if the athlete doesn’t have a ton of teams coming calling just yet.

Smith announced he’d received an official offer from the Huskers on his Twitter account last week. The announcement meant that the Woodland Hills freshman finally had a Power 5 offer under his belt.

Before Nebraska football recruiting turned its attention to Smith, the wide receiver and defensive back hadn’t gotten an FBS offer. Two days after the Huskers reached out, UNLV did the same.

It’s certainly always interesting to see how schools tend to line up once a player garners an official offer from one. It doesn’t hurt that Scoop Smith is from a talent-rich state like Pennsylvania. It also doesn’t hurt that Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule is thought of as someone who understands the talent level in the region.

It’s worth pointing out that when the Huskers made an offer to Stone Saunders, he didn’t have a ton of teams lining up yet either. Now the quarterback has some of the best teams in the country clamoring for his services.

The Huskers have also demonstrated being able to smell out a talent that had been relatively under the radar right in their own back yard. Nebraska football recruiting offered Omaha Central offensive lineman Caleb Pyfrom before basically anyone else. He now has 11 total offers including from schools like Iowa, Penn State, and Colorado.

In regards to Pyfrom, the big schools seem to keep on coming.

It’s been a bit quiet for Scoop Smith. However, now that Nebraska football recruiting has opened the door, it feels like the silence is about to recede. That’s why it’s good that the Huskers have gotten their foot in the door.
