Nebraska Football Recruiting: Huskers target picks up another honor

One of the top Nebraska football recruiting targets in the 2025 class just showed again why he is in fact, one of the Huskers’ top targets. The question remains: How will the Huskers approach Stone Saunders and will he continue to be one of the top targets if everything goes the way they hope with Dylan Raiola?

For his part, Saunders can only control where he goes and why and it appears he’s going to have plenty of options. But it’s also pretty clear that Nebraska football recruiting has zeroed in on him, and it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if he becomes the singular focus should Raiola go somewhere else. What is clear is that the Pennsylvania-based prospect is getting more and more honors and accolades all the time.

Earlier this week, Saunders was named the state of Pennsylvania‘s “Mr. Football” for big schools. The honor means he was selected as the state’s top player for 4A-6A schools. In other words, he’s the best player when judged against the schools with the biggest and best competition. It’s a safe bet that Nebraska football recruiting watchers should take note of how many times the quarterback earned this kind of award.

Nebraska football recruiting target gets new honor

Since the 2022 season ended, the sophomore signal caller garnered the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Player of the Year, MaxPreps All-American, and Gatorade Pennsylvania Player of the Year awards. Keeping all that in mind, it’s important to remember he’s just going to be a junior in 2023.

It sure feels like the sky is the limit with Stone Saunders. Obviously, those in charge of Nebraska football recruiting believe he’s got plenty to offer. There’s a reason he was in town the same week that the Huskers had Raiola in town.

It’s unclear whether Saunders and Raiola could eventually be packaged together or whether the 2025 prospect is a backup plan. But if he is part of a backup, it’s one heck of a Plan B.
