Nebraska football recruiting efforts get more attention on a national scale when it comes to 5-star quarterbacks like Dylan Raiola but Matt Rhule and company are definitely paying attention to all sorts of other players that can help put together a championship roster. That includes Elkhorn South offensive tackle Ashton Murphy.

A 3-star tackle that is currently ranked as the 7th best player in the state by On3 is just starting to get some attention from around the country. That makes the attention paid by those behind Nebraska football recruiting all the more critical.

In that regard, it appears that Nebraska football recruiting took a big step forward by having Ashton Murphy visit Memorial Stadium in the middle of the week. The Huskers are going to be spending the next few weeks with quite a few big visitors. There’s an argument to be made that having a ton of kids all in on the same weekend helps Nebraska football recruiting momentum because the excitement bounces off one kid to another and gets everyone hyped.

However, according to a tweet sent by Murphy on Thursday, it’s clear that he liked the solo visit. Specifically he liked that Nebraska football coaches were able to spend time with him one-on-one and made him feel special.

In other words, it appears that Nebraska football recruiting moves continue to be the right ones all the time.

Even before the offensive tackle’s visit to Lincoln, the Huskers likely had the inside track to the Elkhorn product. Despite having offers from Iowa State, Colorado and others, it appears the Cornhuskers are the front runners for the prospect.

If that’s true then it looks like they might have hammered home their advantage, especially because the trip was quite a bit different than we normally see of Nebraska football recruiting visits.
