Nebraska football player Myles Farmer had his day and court and ended up paying the piper. The defensive back pled no contest to a DUI charge stemming from an arrest in November, and now it appears he’ll be able to put that unpleasant event behind him once he sits out seven days of house arrest.
Farmer was originally supposed to spend seven days in jail. However, that particular sentence was recently changed to house arrest. The Nebraska football star, who was suspended shortly after his arrest, will start to serve his sentence on March 16.
According to the Lincoln Journal Star, Lancaster County Court Judge Laurie Yardley also fined Farmer $500 and revoked his license for six months.
While Farmer’s arrest during the end of the 2022 season landed him with a suspension, it hasn’t been made clear what new head coach Matt Rhule might do in this regard. Interestingly enough, Farmer’s house arrest sentence will have him missing the first few days of spring practice, but he’ll be eligible to return just as things really start ramping up.
It will be interesting to see if the Nebraska football staff might decide that he needs to serve out a longer suspension, or at that point will have served his time and is ready for a clean slate. As of now, neither Rhule nor anyone from the athletic department has made any comment about the most recent court appearance.
It stands to reason that if he is allowed to rejoin the team, he’ll be a big piece of a revamped and rebuilt defense. Myles Farmer appeared in 11 games for Nebraska football last season. In those 11 games, he recorded a total of 73 tackles and a tackle for a loss. Farmer had an interception, four pass breakups, and a quarterback hit out of his defensive back spot.
