There were a couple of surprises when it comes to Nebraska football players that were officially invited to the NFL combine and those who weren’t.
While Nebraska football players going to the NFL Combine does not necessarily mean they will be drafted or make it at the next level, it’s an important first step. That’s why there are a couple of surprises when it comes to who was invited and who didn’t get their piece of paper in the mail.
One player, who seemed like a no-brainer when it came to getting an NFL combine invite was Trey Palmer. He did, after all set the Nebraska football season record for receiving yards. He’s also someone who routinely showed he has the speed to get separation against some of the best defensive backs in the Big Ten. Now Palmer will have the chance to show the NFL what he can do in front of hundreds of scouts.
Which Nebraska Football players are invited to the NFL Combine?
In addition to Palmer, two other Nebraska football players have gotten invites to the 2023 NFL Combine. Ochaun Mathis might be the biggest surprise of the group, considering he didn’t have a fantastic 2022 season. At least he didn’t put up the kind of stats that allowed him to stand out the way Husker fans were hoping.
Tight end Travis Vokolek is the third Nebraska Cornhuskers star that will be given a shot to show what he can do in the combine. Vokolek had the best offensive season of his college career.
Vokolek hauled down 20 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns. Over the course of his career the Rutgers transfer was seen as more of a blocking option but he had to step up as the top tight end for the Huskers in 2022. His numbers would have been even better if he hadn’t missed a few games with various injuries.
Which Nebraska Football players are not invited to the NFL Combine?
One big name that announced he was entering the draft but hasn’t gotten an invite to the NFL combine is Garrett Nelson. Nelson announced he was leaving the Nebraska football program after thinking about coming back for one more season.
The defensive end had his best season for the Huskers in 2022 and was hoping he could parlay that into an invite. Instead, the Nebraska football star will have to show what he can do at the Huskers’ pro day.
