Nebraska basketball and the Creighton Bluejays are directly squaring off in the recruiting game over 3-star guard Dayton Forsythe.

The Nebraska basketball team is coming off quite the Sunday. There was, of course, the big win over the Penn State Nittany Lions. That game might have been the best and most complete victory of the season, Creighton notwithstanding.

It turns out the Nebraska basketball team picked a very good time to play its best game in quite some time because a very special visitor was taking in the action.

Dayton Forsythe is a 3-star combo guard out of Oklahoma that is seeing quite a bit of interest from schools all over the country. The programs showing interest include both Nebraska basketball and Creighton and Forsythe made a weekend out of checking out what Lincoln and Omaha has to offer.

Because of that, the Huskers and Jays are facing off outside the basketball court for Oklahoma’s 3rd ranked player. Oddly enough CU and NU don’t have these kinds of duels all that often. They almost certainly never see the faceoff with official visits the way they did this weekend. It will certainly be interesting to see if one of the schools ends up the victor or whether Forsythe just took advantage of the proximity to get two visits in one trip.

Forsythe checked out what Creighton had to offer on Saturday and posted to Twitter that he enjoyed what he saw from the Bluejays’ five-point win over Villanova. Then on Sunday he got to see the Huskers’ domination of Penn State.

If we’re guessing on where the 2024 prospect might end up based on the level of impressed he came away with from his visit, it would seem the Cornhuskers have a leg up. It’s a safe bet that Nebraska basketball head coach Fred Hoiberg and his crew managed to work the fact they beat CU this season into the conversation more than a few times. Granted it was probably a bit more subtle than, “oh you saw Creighton yesterday huh? Have they recovered from their loss to us yet?” But it was likely something along those lines.

It is, of course possible, that Nebraska basketball and Creighton won’t even factor into Dayton Forsythe’s decision. He does have 13 total offers at this point from schools like Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Wake Forest hot on his trail.
