Most baffling voter choices in latest college basketball rankings

The latest college basketball rankings are officially out and there are some questions that could be raised about just how some voters decided to vote.

One thing that really can’t be questioned is just why Purdue managed to be crowned at the top of the college basketball rankings, considering they improved to 21-1 this week. We already talked about how the Nebraska basketball team should be getting a thank you card from the Boilermakers for allowing them to sharpen themselves into a team that looks like it will be very hard to beat heading down the stretch.

Because there weren’t a ton of upsets this week, the Top 25 didn’t have any big drops or rises. However, a couple of questions should be answered regarding how people decided on their votes.

Baffling Voter Choices In Latest College Basketball Rankings

Right at the top of the list of baffling choices has to be the rather mild punishment Alabama received despite a big loss to a very mediocre Oklahoma squad.

The Crimson Tide fell from second in the country to fourth and it feels as though ‘Bama should have dropped a bit further than that. This is especially the case considering that not only did they lose by 24 to OU, but they also barely managed to beat a Mississippi State squad that is now 1-7 in the SEC.

Another drop that doesn’t make a ton of sense is Kansas State, who’s only recent loss was a four-point defeat at the hands of #12 Iowa State the week before. This past week, the Wildcats have a 14-point victory over the Florida Gators.

Despite a double-digit win over a decent SEC school, the Wildcats dropped two spots in the polls.

At the bottom of the rankings, Indiana managed to jump to number 21 after not being ranked last week. But when it comes to questions around the college basketball rankings, it’s a wonder why San Diego State would also jump into the Top 25 while Illinois, which has been on a big roll of late, is sitting on the outside, looking in.
