Nebraska Football Recruiting Roundup: A possible surprise visitor, a legacy QB enters the portal, more
Nebraska football recruiting has entered an extremely interesting part of the calendar. There’s only a couple of weeks before the “final” signing day of the 2023 class. There are also only hours until the transfer portal closes.
And of course, Matt Rhule and his Nebraska football recruiting apparatus is gearing up for a full-time pursuit of the 2024 class, 2025 class, and beyond. It’s well known that the Huskers are going to be hosting some players in Lincoln this weekend (weather obliging).
Demetrius Bell was the headliner of this group, since he’s a 4-star athlete who could still fit into the 2023 class. However, it looks like there might be a mystery visitor coming as well.
That is if that’s how you want to take Nebraska football recruiting commit Chief Borders’ tweet on Tuesday.
Nebraska Football Recruiting Seeing Commits Get Love
Vincent Caroll Jackson, a late pickup by Matt Rhule and company just ahead of December’s early signing day has been getting the attention of recruiting experts of late. On 247Sports, the defensive tackle is now listed as a 4-star, which gives the Huskers two 4-star prospects in the 2023 class.
Meanhile, home grown talent Malachi Coleman has been showing off his wheels. A video of him in a foot race with USC receiver commit Zachariah Branch (who is a 5-star prospect) has gotten a lot of attention of late.
Huskers In Top 7 For 4-Star Athlete
When it comes to 2024 prospects, I’Marion Stewart is among the very best out of Illinois. The composite 4-star prospect according to 247Sports just released his Top 7 schools. While the experts think this Bolingbrook product is headed to Ann Arbor, the Nebraska football team did make the list. Now it’s up to Matt Rhule and company to close the deal.
Legacy Husker In The Portal
While it seems unlikely that Nebraska football recruiting would turn its attention to Jake Garcia, that he’s in the portal is still plenty interesting. There was a time when people thought the Huskers might be able to bring in the 5-star prospect since he dad used to play here.
There even appeared to be some interest early on from the young quarterback. However as more of a pure pocket passer, it appears that Scott Frost and company never showed a ton of interest. He eventually went to Miami but is now looking for another school. USC would likely be a front runner for his services, as they were among his top schools back in the day.
