Nebraska Cornhuskers news: Kamonte Grimes finds new home, new staff member, more
One of the first Nebraska Cornhuskers football players to announce he was leaving after Matt Rhule took over, has found himself a new home. Kamonte Grimes has landed with Northern Iowa.
Grimes was one of those departures that had some Nebraska Cornhuskers fans wringing their hands because the wide receiver room was pretty bare bones in the days immediately following the start of The Rhulebuild.
However, at this point the new coaching staff has managed to land enough receivers from high school signing day, as well as transfer players such as Billy Kemp that has helped the receiver room fill up.
For his part, Kamonte Grimes will get the chance to try and restart his career. The freshman didn’t have a reception or even a target in the 2022 season. He should be able to try and get some more playing time with the FCS Northern Iowa squad.

Speaking of The Rhulebuild, the new Nebraska football coach added another member to his off-field staff. CJ Cavazos has been named the new Director of Football Relations. Cavazos has spent the last year with the XFL but before that spent decades in the recruiting world of college football. He’s another addition geared towards helping the Nebraska Cornhuskers rebuild move quickly.
Georgia tight end Brett Seither is apparently looking to get out of Brock Bowers shadow. In order to do that, he’s even willing to go from a two-time National Champion to a Nebraska Cornhuskers team that hasn’t been to a bowl in 6 years. He’s visiting Lincoln this weekend and will certainly help the Huskers tight end position if he were to transfer to Matt Rhule’s roster.
