With the early signing period just a few days away, Nebraska football recruiting efforts are really ramping up. To that end, they’re seeing more and more commits and will likely see even more this weekend. To kick that off, Matt Rhule and company got a kicker that many think could compete for the starting job in 2023.
The commitment of Tristan Alvano on Friday was not exactly a shock. There were definitely some who felt it was a foregone conclusion once the Huskers turned their preferred walkon offer into a full scholarship offer late last month. However, stranger things have happened than a last minute switch, especially when talking about a player who didn’t get a ton of love from his home-state team until pretty late in the process.
Any concerns that Tristan Alvano might eschew the late press from the Nebraska football recruiting team were put to rest at 10:30am on Friday. The kicker announced on Thursday that’s when he would be pulling the trigger and he was true to his word.
When he did pull the trigger, he cemented that the kicker will be staying home, despite the fact that he got quite a bit of attention from other schools late in the process as well. That included some late looks from nearby Iowa. And a scholarship offer from Boston College.
That offer from BC especially had to be quite interesting for a young man who might have thoughts about what going to school and playing somewhere other than his home state would be like. He also garnered quite a bit of interest from both Army and Air Force.
The latest get for the Nebraska football recruiting efforts might not be a big one as far as how many stars he’s packing. But Tristan Alvano has a big enough leg that he could be something special for the Huskers as the Matt Rhule era begins.
