Nebraska Cornhuskers news: Cam Taylor-Britt game ball, Chubba cheers on bro, more
While the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team’s season might be over, there are plenty of Huskers that are still seeing their seasons go on in the NFL. One of those players is defensive back Cam Taylor-Britt.
The rookie defender started off the year with the Cincinnati Bengals on the wrong foot. An injury in the preseason caused him to miss most of fall camp and the beginning of the regular season. However, once he returned, he impressed his coaches almost immediately.
On Sunday, the rookie defensive back saw his most extensive playing time yet and he rewarded his defending AFC Champion team with a performance that was good enough that he was handed a game ball.
That fact was made all the sweeter because the coach who decided he deserved the game ball was none other than former Nebraska Cornhuskers football star Zac Taylor. It looks like former Huskers are definitely making good in the Queen City. Taylor-Britt finished the win against the Browns with six tackles (third on the team) and two passes defended.
Other Nebraska Cornhuskers News
Cam Taylor-Britt wasn’t the only guy with ties to the Huskers that was enjoying his Sunday. However, Chubba Purdy was doing things from a different vantage point.
Cameras during the San Francisco 49ers’ blowout win over the Tampa Bay Bucs showed that Chubba was in attendance watching his big brother Brock make his first NFL start. Brock of course played for the Iowa State Cyclones in college and has been quite the story in the NFL the last two weeks. Hopefully, watching his big bro play in the league will give Chubba renewed drive to keep improving and sticking with the Nebraska Cornhuskers next season.
There was good news for the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team directly as well. Matt Rhule and his staff secured their second commit since arriving in Lincoln in the form of Kwinten Ives. It’s been a rather important recruiting weekend, so one would hope they’ll nab some more.
College Football News
There was a time when we thought that John Garrison was going to join Matt Rhule’s staff. It turns out that was never going to happen. However, he has moved from North Carolina State and is now a member of the Ole Miss coaching staff as offensive line coach.
Finally, the college football world was united in worrying over Mississippi State coach Mike Leach. As of Sunday night, the only thing that was known was that his life was very much in danger. There’s been enough concern that coaches from all over the college football world have been asking people to keep Leach in their thoughts.
