For the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team, there really hasn’t been a weekend as big as they one they are about to engage in. Especially when you consider this is going to be the first big recruiting weekend under Matt Rhule.

Right at the top of the list of big visitors is none other than Jeff Sims. Sims has been the starting quarterback for the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets but has decided it’s time to move on.

There isn’t yet a final update for Casey Thompson. Will he stay or will he go?

The good news is that if he stays, Sims could come in as a capable backup who could start in 2024. On the other hand, it feels like if he commits to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, it would be a signal that Thompson is leaning toward leaving.

When it comes to transfer portal players, there are few that would be a big a get as Elijah Jeudy. The Texas A&M transfer will be in Lincoln on Saturday and it’s a safe bet Rhule and company will be giving him a hard pitch.

Jeudy is far from the only defensive lineman who will be visiting the Huskers this weekend. JUCO defensive lineman Kai Wallin has also set a visit to see what the Nebraska Cornhuskers recruiting apparatus has to offer. Wallin was actually offered by Mickey Joseph and company but it’s clear that Rhule and his staff are convinced he’s someone that could help the rebuild.

Malachi Coleman will also be visiting Lincoln this weekend. After being the first commit under Mickey Joseph, he decommitted once it became clear the former interim head coach wasn’t going to be on Rhule’s staff. However, one day after that decommit, Rhule was visiting him trying to get him back in the fold.

It turns out that the Huskers have some big competition, including Deion Sanders and Colorado who have been going hard after him since “Coach Prime” arrived in Boulder.

It turns out that the Nebraska Cornhuskers recruiting weekend is going to be huge, with double digit visitors. You’d have to hope Rhule and company will finish the weekend with a couple of commits at least.
