After many, many rumors about who would be the Nebraska football head coach, we now know that Matt Rhule is the man. Rhule’s first season in Lincoln is going to be an interesting one no matter what, but it looks like it got a bit more interesting now that he’s going to be going head to head against Deion Sanders.

When the Nebraska football team squares off against the Colorado Buffaloes in Week 2, there are now going to be some really interesting reasons to watch the game between the two rival teams. The game is now going to feature a contest against a coach that was once rumored as having the Huskers interested in him. Of course, by all accounts, the Cornhuskers were never really in the race for Prime Time, but the Colorado Buffaloes were, are and seem to have won the race.

Pete Thamel announced on Friday night that things are moving closer and closer to Deion Sanders officially taking the helm of the Buffaloes. In fact things are moving so close that Sanders has been picking out his assistant coaching staff.

He has been picking that staff despite the fact that Thamel says he hasn’t yet signed a contract that officially makes him the man in Colorado. Despite the lack of a contract, that should get signed some point soon, Sanders and his staff have also been telling recruits they are coming to boulder.

That means that when the Nebraska football team takes on CU in Week 2 of next season, it’s going to be more than just two old rivals renewing the series now. There’s going to be quite a few eyeballs who are interested in watching two of the more high profile coaching hires of the 2022 season.

Considering the meteoric rise of Deion Sanders, it seems the game is going to get quite a bit of media. That’s despite the fact that between Nebraska football and Colorado, the two teams had exactly four wins total in 2022.
