Nebraska Football Recruiting: QB prospect visiting Lincoln for final home game
The home stretch for Nebraska football recruiting efforts is here. The light is at the end of the tunnel. The regular season is just a few weeks away and the final home game of the season is just a few days from now. That’s what makes this Senior Day in Lincoln such a weird one. Both for current members of the team, as well as possible future Cornhuskers like quarterback prospect JT Fayard.
Fayard is a Texas-based quarterback with – so far- very few offers. In fact, the Nebraska football recruiting prospect has exactly one offer from an FBS school in Nebraska. Northwestern State is the only other team at the FBS or FCS level that has given Fayard an offer.
The fact that Mickey Joseph and company offered him at all, especially when you consider he is a member of the 2023 class and has announced his intention to enroll in whatever school he chooses in January. The Cornhuskers already have a 2023 quarterback committed to the school in William Watson III.
What has really made Nebraska football recruiting followers stand up and take notice of what Fayard is doing and what has eyebrows raised as his planned visit for the Wisconsin game is that when he was given a Husker offer, he made some comments that made it seem like he knew who the next head coach was. Or at least what kind of offense the next head coach would run in Lincoln.
The announcement that Fayard will be in town this weekend corresponds with new rumors that were hot and heavy on Sunday night and Monday morning. Whispers quickly grew into shouts that former Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule was about to be named the Nebraska Cornhusers‘ newest head coach.
So far, those rumors haven’t amounted to much. The whole of Husker fandom sits and waits to see who will be the permanent replacement for Scott Frost. When looking for signs of what could be next, it’s possible that what Nebraska football recruiting decisions are being made seems to be as good a gauge as any.
