The Nebraska football sellout streak continues with Saturday’s contest against 17th-ranked Illinois. However, it appears as though the streak is still teetering on the brink.
There are two more home games after the matchup against the Illini, and at the moment, neither has sold out. It does appear as though both games will eventually sell out, but the fact that the streak is once again on the brink shows the current state of the Nebraska football program.
In fact, the sellout streak continuing for the Illinois game was on the brink itself as late as last week. There were about 120 tickets available last Friday, but those have since been sold off. Whether it was done by getting private donors to buy them up in bulk or sell them to individual fans isn’t known.
Considering there were 37 on Tuesday and zero on Wednesday, it feels like, once again, someone was buying up everything available. Another sign that the sellout streak is losing its luster is how easy it is to get tickets on the resale market these days. Tickets can even be had for about half what they are from the university.
Nebraska football’s final two games of the year will almost certainly be sold out before their kickoffs, considering there are less than 100 tickets available for each game. However, the fact that it’s taking this long to get to the finish line really does show that the sellout streak is on the brink of ending at some point.
Should the Cornhuskers struggle toward the end of this year and then make a hire that Husker fans aren’t happy about, 2023 could be quite interesting.
There’s also the fact that the 2023 season will kick off with two road games. Should the Nebraska football team get off to a rough start, the sellout streak watch is going to go into overdrive.
