The Nebraska football team is fresh off a victory over the Indiana Hoosiers, and already Vegas has decided that they’re the favorites to win their second straight. At least for the moment.

The Nebraska football team has had a tough go this season, but there are some indications that things are turning around a bit. At least when it comes to playing teams that aren’t exactly considered the cream of the crop.

On Sunday night, odds for the Huskers and Rutgers game were released, and it appears that the Cornhuskers are going to be favored this week, despite the fact that the game is being played in Piscataway. NU opened at -2 and FanDuel at least already has that number growing a bit to -2.5 for Friday’s contest.

It’s a little surprising that the Nebraska football team is starting off as a favorite if for no other reason; they’ve struggled mightily this season. While they might have beaten the Hoosiers, there’s still a body of work that shows the Huskers will struggle, especially in their first road game (not counting Ireland) of the season.

On the other hand, while Rutgers looked like it had figured things out a bit earlier in the season, it’s coming off a blowout loss to Ohio State that could very well be considered the kind of back breaker that could send a season into the crapper.

If history is any indication, the line is likely to keep growing. Last week, the Huskers opened as a slight favorite over Indiana but eventually it got to the point where they were -7 by kickoff. Of course, that was a home game and the first contest after bye week where the Nebraska football coaches were able to install their new philosophies.

Things are also going to be interesting for both squads as they’ll be playing on Friday night, rather than Saturday for the first time all year.
