Nebraska Football: Big Ten Power Rankings shakeout after Week 3
Just how bad is the Big Ten west so far this season? Consider that Purdue was expected to be a pretty good team and is now sitting at 1-2 on the season after a loss to Syracuse, things aren’t going great for the division. Until Purdue can get a win against an FBS school – their only win is against FCS Indiana State – they’re going to be considered pretenders rather than contenders.
Surely there are going to be some Hawkeyes fans who believe that 12th in the Big Ten Power Rankings isn’t really fair. However, Iowa simply hasn’t played all that well. They opened the season with a 7-3 victory over South Dakota State that didn’t see either team score a touchdown.
They followed that with a 10-7 loss to Iowa State and finally scored more than one touchdown in a game against a Nevada team that lost 55-41 to Incarnate Word last week. Iowa’s defense has a chance to be special. It’s offense is going to need to find a way to score against teams with a pulse if it wants to jump up the rankings.
The Northwestern Wildcats started the year on a high note, beating the Nebraska football team in Dublin, Ireland. It’s all been downhill from there as they suffered a defeat at the hands of the Duke Bluedevils. They then added insult to injury by losing to FCS S. Illinois.
The only reason the Wildcats are not right at the bottom of the Big Ten Power Rankings is because they’ve beaten the team that is the worst in the conference.
The Nebraska football team shocked the football world by being as bad as they’ve been this year. They were indeed so bad that Scott Frost was the first coach in the college ranks to be fired. It didn’t take defensive coordinator to be the first DC in the country to lose his job as well.
The Huskers have hit rock bottom repeatedly, following up 45 points allowed to Georgia Southern with a 49-14 shellacking by Oklahoma. The Nebraska football team gets a merciful week off in order to try and lick its wounds and reboot in hopes that it can come back out and get a win over Indiana on October 1.
