While the focus this fall has been on the Nebraska football team, the Nebraska basketball team is facing a “make it or break it” season as well. While there’s still some time before Huskers fans will get to see whether this version of Fred Hoiberg’s boys will actually be improved, there’s some recruiting news to look after.

Unfortunately for Nebraska basketball recruiting, it appears things aren’t going all that well in the last month or so. Hoiberg’s crew might have taken another hit on Monday night when one of the team’s top targets this cycle, Braelon Green, canceled an upcoming trip to Lincoln.

Green had been planning on paying the Nebraska basketball team a visit on September 30, but that’s no longer in the cards. The reason for that appears to be that the 3-star shooting guard is going to be announcing his commit on September 24.

While that bit of news doesn’t sound all that great for Hoiberg,  No. 116 overall player in the 2023 On3 rankings, told the site that the Nebraska basketball team is still in the running.

Of course, while the Cornhuskers might technically have a shot at the guard, it certainly seems as if Arizona State is the team to beat. The Sun Devils are the only school he’s taken an official visit to and On3 has them rated as having a 91.1 percent chance of landing him.

Michigan State is currently second in those odds, though the Spartans are quite a ways back. Then comes North Carolina State, and then finally, is the Huskers. That doesn’t mean NU is done but it’s not boding well for a program that needs wins both on and off the court.

Nebraska basketball recruiting treading water

If Braelon Green does pull the trigger for someone besides the Huskers, it will certainly be unfortunate. On the other hand, Hoiberg does have some other aces up his sleeve. That includes another shooting guard in Parker Friedrichsen.

Nebraska basketball recruiting is churning right along as Hoiberg prepares for what could be his final season in Lincoln if things go sideways.
