Nebraska Football: Trio of transfers feeling fallout from Scott Frost firing
When it comes to Nebraska football and the fallout over the Scott Frost firing, there’s been quite a bit of coverage as to how people around the program are handling things. There have even been articles written about how Cornhusker recruits have doubled down on their commitments in their wake.
But how about people who put on the Nebraska football uniform under Scott Frost who aren’t members of the “family” any more. It just so happens there are three such players who fit that bill who have all ended up teammates again. In Manhattan, Kansas, Adrian Martinez, Will Honas and Kade Warner are watching what’s going on in Lincoln from afar. Unsurprisingly they had some thoughts about place they spent a good part of their playing days.
The trio of transfers recently talked to the Wichita Eagle about their feelings regarding Frost’s recent firing. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that for the most part, the three were diplomatic and didn’t spill any “tea.” There wasn’t any sort of negative talk about Frost, despite the fact that all three players felt they would be better served playing somewhere else after coming to Nebraska.
One of the most interesting comments was from Warner, who described some of the Nebraska football players he’s talked to as “dazed.”
"“I feel for those guys over there because I have a couple buddies on the team and they are going through their last years. You never want to see that happen to anybody, especially the players. I hope they bounce back, and I hope they win a lot of games this year because I have so many guys on that team that I really care for.”"
Martinez echoed the talk about a lot of Huskers players he still had a close relationship with. However, it was also interesting that Martinez reportedly didn’t want to say anything at all.
He was, after all, one of the first and highest-profile recruits that Frost landed after he took the Cornhuskers’ job. However, Martinez decided to spend his last season of college ball somewhere else.
Maybe that’s why his comments were far from a fierce defense of his former coach. He started those comments off with “You hate to see a man lose his job, regardless.,” and then almost immediately moved to the assistant coaches and support staff and how their jobs were also going to be in turmoil.
One thing that stood out from the trio of former Nebraska football players is that it didn’t seem there was a great deal of love lost for Scott Frost.
