Nebraska football might have a second shot at a talented defensive lineman.

Caleb Bryant out of Vicksburg, Mississippi has been committed to the Utah Utes since June but recently had a change of heart. The 3-star prospect took to Twitter on Saturday night to announce that he was officially decommitting.

He added in the rather short tweet that his recruitment is now 100 percent open.

It does appear that things are wide open for the defensive star considering that before he committed to Utah, the recruiting experts were quite convinced he was heading to Mississippi State.

Of course, it’s possible that one big reason why he’s decided against being a Ute is because he’s decided he wants to stay close to home and be a Bulldog.

It’s also possible that the Nebraska football team is back in the fight. Considering the announcement that he had opened his recruiting came last night, it’s hard to tell exactly what’s up next for the defensive lineman.

For what it’s worth, On3.com doesn’t rate the Huskers as having a particularly good chance at nabbing Bryant. That service currently considers Miami, Missouri and MSU as the top candidates.

There is also a chance that Utah might be able to hold onto the prospect when the dust finally settles.

The Nebraska football team could certainly benefit from his commitment. He’s been a dominant player in Vicksburg, recording 78 tackles and 11 sacks during his junior year.

As the Huskers head to Ireland to get ready to square off against Northwestern, the team is also seeing its recruiting heat up. Managing to steal the Mississippi native from a team that many have dubbed one of the better in the country would be a nice achievement.

For now, it’s time to play the waiting game and see if Nebraska football can close the deal.
