This is certainly unfortunate news for Nebraska basketball.

Like a lot of people, I hate Mondays. This Monday has been rough in particular. Teddy Allen has left the Nebraska basketball program. In rather abrupt fashion, Nebraska basketball loses one of their top scorers from the program.

Allen was having a great season statistically, recording 16.4 points per game as well as 4.7 rebounds per game. In his last action for Nebraska basketball he did not record a point in 10 minutes against Minnesota. With that being said, he recorded 41 points against Penn State less than a week ago.

This definitely hurts Nebraska basketball from a scoring standpoint. He was the leading scorer after all, and he could knock down three-point shots with the relative consistency. He made things happen when he had the basketball, and that was definitely noticeable.

On the bright side, Nebraska basketball does have other options for scoring. Trey McGowens is a player that I would look to from now on to provide consistency in that department. He has been playing well over the last couple of games, and I would expect that to continue. He is now going to have to carry the load.

Either way, this is a blow for Nebraska basketball. Allen was a player who could score both inside and outside the paint. Especially when he would get into his zone, he was able to get buckets in bunches. Off the court, he did have troubles in terms of discipline. As some of you may recall, he was benched  for the Minnesota game. Following the benching, he played well. In fact, he played some of his best basketball of the season.

I will be interested to see what the fallout is from this, as well as how Nebraska replaces the loss of Allen. He certainly was a special player, and he brought another dimension of scoring to the program. It will be interesting to see where he ends up, and if he gets another chance to play big-time college basketball.
