A new season for Nebraska baseball begins shortly.

In the midst of all the exciting talk about Nebraska football and basketball, there is another sport that should provide some excitement come the spring. The Nebraska baseball schedule was announced on Wednesday, and it looks to provide some competitive action.

The season begins with a four-game series against Purdue on March 5. It will be a neutral site series in Round Rock, Texas. After that, Nebraska will head up north to Minnesota to play Iowa and Ohio State. There will certainly be some frequent flyer miles for these Nebraska baseball players.

Following that week, they will play Iowa in Iowa. Those are some of the more interesting portions of the schedule. One other series I am particularly interested in is Michigan at the end of the season. it seems like games against Michigan are always high-scoring and I have zero doubt that the Nebraska baseball offense will be able to contend with the likes of Michigan as well as the rest of the Big Ten.

The entire schedule is listed here, and it is certainly jam-packed and busy. This will certainly test the readiness and preparedness of Will Bolt’s program series in and series out.

One other important scheduling note is that there will be no Big Ten tournament this year. This could be good for overall play throughout the course of the season. Every game will mean that much more. I have no doubt that this Nebraska baseball program will be ready to go.

Spencer Schwellenbach is undoubtedly a player I’m looking forward to watching. Nebraska baseball has said that they want to try to use him to play multiple positions. He certainly has the athleticism, and I don’t see where it would hurt them to do so. I trust what the coaching staff has up their sleeves on how to use him.

In any event, Nebraska baseball season is getting that much closer. They certainly have the talent to have a successful year, and I can’t wait to see what they do this year. Especially with last season being cut short for obvious reasons, this will give them a chance to go out and show that they belong with the rest of the Big Ten conference.

Will Bolt is building a solid program. Now, it’s going to be up to him and his coaching staff to take all that talent and get the most out of each of the players.
