Nebraska basketball certainly landed a talented player.

Blaise Keita committed to the Nebraska basketball program on Monday, giving the Huskers another big man to add to the team. A member of the 2022 class, he certainly gives them an intriguing option for the future at the center position.

I’ll admit, when I watched his highlight film, I really liked what I saw. He was very smooth in the paint, and had a nice little fadeaway shot that will serve him well at the collegiate level. In addition, he also played tough defense, something that Nebraska basketball will definitely be able to use in the paint. To put it simply, I am really excited about when he brings the table and his future with the program.

In a report from the Lincoln Journal-Star on Tuesday, one of Keita’s former coaches talked about what he can bring to the table. His words sound very intriguing, and they are sort of in line with what I saw out of him on film. As Nebraska continues to go through the rebuilding process as a program, his skill set should be able to mesh nicely with the others on the roster.

Coffeyville head coach Jay Herkelman talked a little bit about what his former player will be able to bring to Nebraska. In reading his comments, it sounds like Keita has the versatility needed to help Nebraska basketball really make an impact. I certainly am going to be excited to see him play, and I think he will be the perfect type of player for the future of the program.

"“He’s a legit 6-foot-10 forward that can play. He plays both end of the floor,” Herkelman said. “He’s a good defender, he’s tough, doesn’t mind getting physical in the post. He’s got a good rebounding mentality — he tries to go get all the balls that go to the rim.”"

I can’t wait to see how this particular skill set translates on the court. Physicality and rebounding are two things that Nebraska basketball are currently missing right now. As Nebraska to get set to take on Maryland, these are the types of games where the Huskers could use a player like Keita.

In any event, I am happy that he is now in Lincoln. Fred Hoiberg has done a good job recruiting players for the future of this program. You can tell he has a vision, now it’s all about making it work.
