Could a Nebraska football season be on the way?

In what has been a crazy week of rumors, a vote involving Nebraska Football could take place on the season as early as Friday. Dave Biddle of Bucknuts.com reported that a re-vote by the Big Ten is taking place.

In the last vote, Big Ten presidents and chancellors voted 11-3 against of football season. It makes me proud to say that one of the three teams who voted for a season was Nebraska football. Ohio State and Iowa were the other two.

In a piece of related information, Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said that Quidel Corporation rapid tests for Covid-19 can be done in a training room in 15 minutes. Scott has been in contact with Kevin Warren and has indicated the desire to have leagues align their seasons.

This all comes in what has been a wild week for the conference. From Bill Moos denying  that a season would start October 10, to President Trump and Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren discussing starting the college football season, this has been a wild week of developments.

The emergence of this new test in combination with a vote happening soon sets up a potential perfect storm for whether Big Ten football can be played. Personally, I wonder how this a vote is going to go and if it will yield any different results. I know Moos himself has said he has wanted to play, and I don’t expect him to change course on that at all.

If anything, he has been one of the biggest advocates for playing in general. He has stayed consistent in his goal of getting Nebraska football to be played. Yes, his work with the return to play committee and his vote to start the season have different time frames.. However, it is apparent he wants to play no matter what. For that, I give him a ton of credit.

Right now, all eyes are on potentially Friday, and maybe a little later. A potential vote could set the wheels in motion again, and give us fall football. The same result could give us more heartache.

Nevertheless, it has been anything but a dull week for Nebraska football and Big Ten football fans. There are a lot of moving parts trying to get things going. There is definitely additional pressure being put on the conference to try to make things happen. Now, we have to sit back and hope that something sticks.
