The future Nebraska Football player did well on Friday.

High school football season is here, and that means Nebraska commitments are in action. You’ve already heard about how Thomas Fidone did on Friday. Another Nebraska football commit was in action, and  he did not do so bad for himself either.

2021 quarterback Heinrich Haarberg was in action on Friday. All things considered, he did pretty well for himself. In doing so, he undoubtedly set the tone for the rest of his regular season.

More from Husker Corner

Playing for Kearney Catholic, he threw for 174 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for a touchdown. Perhaps the most impressive part of his night was that he only threw one incompletion.

Sure, Wood River/Shelton may not have been much of a contest. However, it is encouraging to see him get off to a good start. He showed exactly what type of quarterback he was and what Nebraska football fans can look forward to.

This is definitely what I saw out of Haarberg when I watched his film. He’s a good pocket-passer. However, he can also rush the ball any given time. That type of dual-threat ability is encouraging moving forward. That’s exactly the type of quarterback you want in today’s game of football.

Now, with the schedule getting a little bit harder, I’ll be interested to see how he does against tougher competition. Usually the first couple days of the football season in the collegiate and high school ranks are dedicated to playing opponents that may not be the toughest competition. Now, the tougher competition is where the fun begins.

For me, I’ll be interested to see if he will be able to put up good numbers both on the ground and in the air. Let’s face it, one incompletion is pretty darn good. It’s also the first game of the season, which means many teams do not necessarily have good film on him yet.

Truthfully though, I don’t think film would make too much of a difference in this case. What I’ve seen from Twitter highlights from Friday night is just a case of natural skill. He is definitely the real deal, and I can’t wait to see him get to Lincoln.
