The Nebraska football commit put on a show Friday.

In case you haven’t heard by now, Thomas Fidone is officially a Nebraska football commit. If you haven’t heard that by now, you’ve probably been living under a rock. Friday, Highlights emerged from his high school opener. Within those highlights, we got to see exactly what he could bring to the table.

One of the major highlights floating around twitter was a 41-yard touchdown catch. Watching the catch unfold, it brought to light everything that Fidone  can bring to the table. His speed  good hands were on full display. As a report from Parker Gabriel of the Lincoln Journal Star notes, his big-play ability forced offenders to have to pay attention to him. From that point on, he was double and triple-teamed in coverage.

It was absolutely fascinating to watch, and made me think of what he could bring to the Nebraska football offense. I envision a quarterback finding him on a seam route and helping the program spread the field. It is very clear that he doesn’t have to rely on just his size and physicality alone. He has the speed to match it. Those are traits that will serve him well in big-time football.

When you take a look at the Big Ten conference overall, there are big-play receivers abound. I’m putting him in the same category as a receiver because he has that type of playmaking ability. He is not a lumbering tight end. He is a player who gets down the field quickly. I am very anxious to see what tight ends coach Sean Beckton will be able to do with him. His skill set is unlike anything Nebraska football has had in quite some time.

In any event, Fidone certainly played well in his high school opener. It certainly gave me hope in regards to what he could do in a Nebraska uniform. Perhaps more than that, it showed that Nebraska got a bona fide stud at a position where production is desperately needed.
