In addition to Nebraska, he was also recruited by Iowa State, Missouri, and UCF. He was recruited to Lincoln by Sean Beckton and Barrett Ruud.
You have heard me talk about his name for a while as Nebraska football has been talking to him throughout the recruiting process. It’s awesome to see that Nebraska has leaded another homegrown player. This marks the second Nebraska-born player to commit this week. Koby Bretz was the other.
What could Rollins bring to Nebraska? Rollins brings an instant red zone threat, and a player that can get into the open field quickly. Using his size, he is able to get the upper hand on defenders easily. He is also a very good route-runner.
One of the things I noticed in particular that he did well was his ability to come back to the quarterback on scrambles. With the type of quarterbacks that Nebraska football has, this is certainly important. In this way, Rollins can keep plays alive in addition to being a big-bodied target. That’s a double whammy.
The commitment of Rollins adds to a tremendous 2021 Nebraska football recruiting class. They are ranked 24th nationally, and sixth overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Team Rankings. In comparison to where they were in may for example, this is a marked improvement.
It always seems like Nebraska fills out their recruiting class later parts of the recruiting cycle. This could be a testament to the fact that they wait for who they really want, Alternatively, they could just be lucky. That could certainly be the case here. Nevertheless, Nebraska gets another major playmaker to add to the roster, and at the tight end position no less. It’s been a great week for the program.
After not getting production from the tight end position lately, Nebraska football will undoubtedly be able to get it in the years to come.I’m excited to see what the combination of Rollins and Thomas Fidone can do. That is certainly a combo that I would not want to face if I was an opponent.
