Nebraska football has landed another former Iowa Hawkeye.

Another former Iowa player is headed to Lincoln. Former  four-star wide receiver Oliver Martin will join the Nebraska football team as a walk-on transfer. He has bounced around throughout his college career, playing at Michigan in 2017-18 and playing for the Hawkeyes in 2019.

Martin is listed as a student in the Nebraska directory for this fall. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

He doesn’t have a ton in the way of numbers, recording 16 catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns in addition to one start in his collegiate career.

When I watched some of his high school car lights, it became instantly clear to me that he has a ton of talent. When the ball is thrown his way, he used a combination of both his physicality and speed to make things happen after the catch. He didn’t try any fancy jukes after he got the ball. He just kept his head straight down and made the play.

He is the perfect wide receiver for what Nebraska football is trying to do. When you look at their recruiting trends over the past couple of weeks, they want big-play, physical wide receivers. Martin certainly fits that category. He could be a threat in the red zone, as well as in the open field. His versatility should be a tremendous asset to the Nebraska football offense.

Aside from all of that, it’s just nice to land another walk-on transfer from Iowa. Hopefully, Nebraska will be able to use Martin effectively. The combination of the Nebraska football offense having the ability to play wide-open, and the addition of Matt Lubick as the offensive coordinator should work in Martin’s favor. I can’t wait to see how Martin and Lubick work with each other.

This walk-on adds experience to a young wide receivers unit. Martin is a player that has been through the college football ranks and knows what it’s like. That is perhaps the most overlooked part of Martin’s addition to the program. He brings a veteran presence that Nebraska lacks in the wide receivers room.

It will be interesting to see exactly how he is utilized in Lincoln. His skillset lends himself to be extremely effective, and allows him to be a target that can produce in bunches. Not only that, he is big in terms of a Nebraska football wide receiver. Nebraska loves the smaller slot receivers, and Martin is a little bit different in that regard. It will be exciting to see his multi-faceted skillset in Lincoln.
