Nebraska football may have a throwback tight end in Travis Vokolek.

When you consider what the tight end room brings to the table, there is a lot of veteran experience. Not only is there a lot of veteran experience, there are also two tight ends who are already familiar with the Nebraska football offense in Austin Allen and Jack Stoll.

When you think of how a tight end is used in today’s game of football, very rarely is blocking considered the primary asset for a tight end. Especially in the Big Ten, , receiving and offense is the name of the game. However, blocking for Nebraska football could prove to be hugely important, and to have a tight end who can do that is certainly a bonus.

Recently Vokolek has been getting a lot of praise. As noted in a piece by Husker247, the tight end has caught the eye of the coaching staff. That is certainly a good thing for a newcomer who is looking to make an immediate impact. Whenever football does resume, I would expect him to get a good amount of playing time.

He has been on an upward progression ever since the beginning of the year. Especially as a transfer player, progressing quickly is not an easy thing to do. Vokolek has seemed to welcome the challenge. Not only that, he appears to have really left an impression with his blocking.

"Mario Verduzco recently tweeted out that Vokolek is a “baller.” Sean Beckton has made it known that Vokolek has come a long way on his blocking and has natural abilities as a receiver.Don’t be surprised if the junior is used in many different ways in the offense, and provides a good example to some high-profile recruits on how the position can be used."

I’m excited to see how he can be used. He is sort of a throwback to old-school football in the sense that his blocking is going to be a focal point of his game. Make no mistake, he will certainly be a solid receiving target. Measuring in at six-foot-six, 260 pounds, he will undoubtedly be a red zone option for Nebraska.

dark. Next. Fidone could transform offense

I’m excited to see him play in Lincoln, and I truly believe that he will be an asset. He may not put up big-time numbers, but he should be able to get the job done. Especially at a tight end position that has been inconsistent in recent memory, that’s about as much as you can ask for.
