Nebraska football landed a big commitment on Sunday.
Nebraska football gained a commitment almost as quickly as they lost one. Following the decommitment of 2021 linebacker Will Schweitzer , they gained a receiver for the class. 2021 three-star wide receiver Kamonte Grimes has committed to the program.
Grimes is a 37th overall athlete in the 2021 class, and the 79th overall player in his class from the state of Florida per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. In addition to Nebraska, he also had offers from the likes of Cincinnati, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Kentucky. Most recently, he received an offer from Wisconsin on May 4.
What could he bring to Nebraska football? When you watch his film, it’s very evident that he is all over the field. In terms of what he can bring at the wide receiver position, he has a ton of speed. Measuring in at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, that’s another big-bodied receiver.
Nebraska football has been searching for big body receivers in this wide receiver class, and they have landed them. Having tall receivers is a little bit of a changeup from what they normally have at the position. Nevertheless, it a necessary change.
This class is very strong at wide receiver, and I love the fact that they’re continuing to bring in playmakers. This is what Nebraska football needs to do if they want to be successful. Getting receivers that can go up and get passes as well as muscle their way into the end zone is the future of college football right now.
The game of football favors the offense in a big way these days, and now it’s up to programs to adapt to that. Nebraska has certainly tried to do so.
Currently, the 2021 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 39th overall nationally and ninth overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Team Rankings. This commitment brings them up to No. 14. This class has playmakers, and it also has players that can make an impact right away. In my estimation, Grimes falls into both of those categories.
In what has been an up-and-down day in terms of recruiting for Nebraska football, this is certainly a high. It will be interesting to see who else they add to this class. This class is very good, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw more playmakers added to it very soon. In terms of recruiting, you can never count out Coach Frost and his staff.
